What time is it? We know it’s always time for a team drink with other Parrot Heads, tailgating and a concert on April 25th. However, it’s also time for an update from President Tracy.
UPDATE: As Karen shared, Saturday’s Relay Fundraiser was a huge success at the Nav-A-Gator. Please thank Dennis and Nancy Kirk for helping us! Guess what? WE WILL BE DOING IT AGAIN AT OUR MEETING TOMORROW – Come out and help us raise money for the cure! Also, send your appreciation to Abe and friends at the Coral Rock Tiki Bar!
There were 109 Founding Members that helped Matt & I receive approval for CHPHC and joined immediately following approval. Together we did something amazing on 8/31/07 by starting this club. Then our members recruited the greatest Parrot Heads and CHPHC grew quickly! In 2008 we donated 1074 volunteer hours, raised $10,741.00 for local charities, plus hundreds of pounds of food & supplies. We ended the year with 345 currently paid members as of 12/31/08. GREAT JOB CHPHC!
Important News to Share: Elections are approaching April for four positions:
- President
- Secretary
- Membership Director
- Founding Member at Large (New Member Relations)
Linda’s and Jerry’s positions, just elected in ’08, will be up for election in 2010– along with Vice President, Treasurer and Social Director. We will have the assistance of our lovely Elections Officer again, Dede Stuart. As questions arise, please direct them to Dede at dedestuart@yahoo.com. The Board can not be involved in the elections. A member in good standing can run for a position – this includes having your dues currently paid as well as being active in the club. If you’re not sure if your dues are current, when you joined (this is common) just contact Charlotte at phcharlierose@yahoo.com or at the Membership Table during at a meeting. We will send this out to you soon, just most importantly: If you wish to run for any of the positions this year: Bios and Pictures can be sent to Dede starting Feb 16. just a FINS UP, more to follow!
Update on our Vice President Position: Tryin’ to Reason With Hurricane Season Robert Randolph,
Founding VP, left for a quick trip to TX after the hurricane. As some know, Galveston was not only home to Robert & Kris but also where The Parrot was hatched. Greg Vogel, Social Director, stepped in to assist me as an unofficial Interim VP. Since it was only going to be a few weeks…we didn’t announce it. Robert has been updating us on his return, however now it may not be until May. Robert felt it in the best interest of the club to have an official VP local in Charlotte Harbor. The Board agreed. What happens if Matt & I sail away for a trip around the sun….the club needs to know who will step in as President! A mom of three can dream, but seriously… The Board unanimously agreed that Greg Vogel should continue the work he’s currently doing as Interim VP. We ask for your support of Greg’s new position as our Vice President. Robert will continue to be an active member as our Founding VP, and there’ll be plenty of ways he can help when he returns. Greg, I thank you for quietly filling two positions for the club for several months. This was something we weren’t prepared for, but are we ever prepared for a hurricane? Robert & Kristen, aka 2nd Parrot, send their best to their friends here in CHPHC. You may catch one of them while they are in town, if you do, let them know they are missed!
Greg’s term will not be prolonged due to this change. The VP and Social Director are up for election in 2010.
At that time, the club will vote for a VP as they will a President this year. Our bylaws are written to keep President and VP as well as Treasurer and Secretary on alternating years. This will help with transitions, from everything from PHIP Reports, Tax filing, and planning events. Please let me know if you have questions!
The next step, Charlotte Harbor Parrot Heads, is to appoint a Social Director. If you have a suggestion, please send it to chparrotheads@yahoo.com with Social Director in the Subject Line. If you have anything you wish to share with me directly, send it to tracy33948@yahoo.com. I appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Our Board is eager to fill this position!
Now Just to reflect on 2008…
Our first FULL year, and our members shined…and we received great press! The Parrot, Charlotte & Englewood
Sun Papers, Rotonda Rotary newsletters, and Harborstyle to name a few! We also have had some great air time
with Jeff Collins & “Mr. Baseball” on WCCF 1580 AM! Thank you to every member – whether you chaired a committee or jumped in to help at an event last minute…we need you to Party With A Purpose in Charlotte Harbor ! We have members jumping in to help all the time! We have plenty of repeat helpers, and new faces all the time. THANK YOU! Yet, we can’t reflect on 2008 without paying our respects to some. We lost a few members, friends and family. They will be missed. Our members lost family and friends, and to those members you have been in my thoughts. Then there’s Captain Tony… Parrot Heads everywhere raised a toast to Captain Tony this year as he moved on during MOTM this year. A legend never dies…Our community also lost Rich Glenke “Mr. Baseball.” He will always be missed in Charlotte Harbor. I believe one way to honor his memory is to be at Relay for Life on March 7-8 in ANY team. I know some members have work related teams…it’s all for the same cause. It will be different, not having Rich speeding by us the entire time. Also, visit his family at his new restaurant “Mr. Baseball’s Pizza and Pub.” Let’s honor all of our loved ones that have moved on by doing what WE DO BEST: Living life to the fullest each and every day! I rather die while I’m living…and that they did.
Now onto 2009:
You’ll hear more about some folks that have taken on General Board positions over the past year, including Sue
Clark, Karen Powers, Mitzi Weber, John Grimshaw, Pop-Top Skipper & Carol Hunt, and many others. Soon we’ll have flyers with all the positions, their names, and emails.
Our #1 goal going into 2009 is improving communication, including updating/replacing our website.
Can you help? Please contact me at tracy33948@yahoo.com or anyone on the board if you wish. We love to hear from all our Parrot Head friends, but especially our very own Charlotte Harbor Parrot Heads!
We really just hatched at just over a year old, but we are Partying With A Purpose in Charlotte Harbor!
